Original Oil Painting of a Sea Star Square Dance (Pisaster giganteus) by Donna S Schaffer
Sea Star Square Dance (Pisaster giganteus) Oil on Mahogany Panel - 48" wide x 48" high Original Oil Painting - For Sale
My husband shore dives off OceanView Blvd in Pacific Grove, California. (I only do boat dives now!) These members of the Pisaster seastar family show the range of colors and markings that can be seen in the species. I just love the "formation" they are in. I can hear the square dance music now. Commonly called the Knobby Starfish or Giant-spined Seastar, they're in the same genus as the ochre seastar Pisaster ochraceus, you see those all along the California coast tidepools when it's a really low tide - both species love to eat mussels and other mollusks.
